Dr. James “Jeb” Bell, PhD, is the Executive Director of Project Liberty Institute (PLI), where he leads an international team of researchers, policy experts and technologists responsible for developing and incubating new business and governance models that give people a greater voice, choice and stake in the data-driven economy. Prior to joining Project Liberty, he served in a number of executive positions. As Meta’s inaugural Director of Global Policy Research, he oversaw academic collaborations around the globe and advanced researcher access to platform data. At Pew Research Center, Jeb served as Vice President of Global Strategy – a role in which he directed opinion, demographic and economic research in dozens of countries, tracking trends and developments in democratic engagement, well-being and technology use. Earlier in his career, he directed the U.S. State Department’s Office of Opinion Research, where he designed and managed quantitative and qualitative studies in more than a hundred countries, including active conflict zones. Jeb has served as an advisor to multiple organizations, including the United Nations and World Economic Forum, published on a range of topics and appeared as an expert commentator on television and in print media. Jeb earned his doctorate in geography from the University of Washington, Seattle.
