Project Liberty

Founded in 2019 by civic entrepreneur Frank McCourt, Project Liberty is building a people-centered digital future in the age of AI. We advance this mission through three interdependent strategies: building world-class digital infrastructure centered on people, designing sustainable data governance models, shaping smarter policy, and mobilizing a movement for change.

Our work began with a new protocol to provide the shared digital rails for an open, interoperable web. We started with infrastructure because common standards for identity and connection are a prerequisite for restoring individuals’ control of their own data. That work provides the foundation for efforts to give people more agency over their digital identities and relationships, avoid platform lock-in, and manage our interactions with AI agents.
